Problem

In many parts of the world, access to quality education can be a challenge. Utubora, a school in Kenya, aims to provide quality education to its students. However, to achieve its mission, Utubora relies on the generosity of donors.

Access to quality education is a fundamental right, but unfortunately, it remains a challenge in many parts of the world, including Kenya. Schools like Utubora are striving to provide quality education to their students, but they often face resource constraints. These constraints can limit the school’s ability to provide essential learning materials, hire qualified teachers, and maintain a conducive learning environment. Furthermore, the families of many students may not have the financial means to support their children’s education, making the situation even more challenging.

The issue is further compounded by the fact that potential donors who can contribute to the cause often lack a reliable platform to do so. They may be willing to contribute, but without a trustworthy and convenient platform, their goodwill may not translate into tangible support for the school. This gap between the school’s needs and potential donors represents a significant problem that needs to be addressed.

Solution

As the Utubora charity website, we aim to bridge the gap between Utubora and potential donors. We provide a platform where users can learn about Utubora, its mission, and its impact.

The Utubora charity website serves as a solution to this problem. It provides a platform where potential donors can learn about the school, its mission, and its impact. More importantly, it offers a seamless and secure process for making donations. Whether it’s a one-time donation or a recurring contribution, the website makes it easy for donors to contribute to the school’s cause. By facilitating the donation process, the Utubora website ensures that the school can continue to provide quality education to its students. It’s a solution that brings us one step closer to making quality education accessible to all.

Design Process

1. Understanding the Brief

As the creators of the Utubora charity website, we first need to understand our brief. We’re creating a website that allows users to learn about the school, its mission, and how they can contribute to its cause. We need to understand our target audience, their philanthropic interests, and how they engage with charity websites.

2. Research

We then delve into extensive research. We study the current charity website market, competitor platforms, and the latest trends in digital philanthropy. We also conduct user surveys and interviews to understand our potential users’ needs and expectations from a charity website.

3. Define

Based on our research, we define our design challenge. We aim to create a user-friendly website that provides a seamless experience for learning about Utubora and contributing to its mission.

4. Ideate

We start brainstorming ideas for website features, user interface design, and user experience elements. We think about innovative ways to present information about Utubora and facilitate donations.

5. Prototype

We select the most promising ideas and turn them into prototypes. We select the most promising ideas and turn them into prototypes. These could be wireframes or interactive mockups of the Utubora website. We ensure that these prototypes align with our users’ needs and provide a seamless experience.

6. Test

Finally, we test our prototypes. We gather user feedback, observe user interactions with the app, and make necessary refinements. This iterative process helps us improve the app’s design and functionality, ensuring a great user experience.

Conlusion

The long process of researching, testing, and repeatedly honing my designs has led to a project I’m proud of, but still, I believe there’s a lot of room for improvement.

WHAT I LEARNED

It's good to ask for lots of help! Having a fresh pair of eyes helped a lot with nitpicking details I glazed over Settling on a good word choice can be harder than settling on a design choice... Brand identity is formed through every decision in tone, color, shapes, and more!

SOMETHING I WANT TO IMPROVE ON

I'd like to work more on my research method. The sample for my initial interview research was quite small and biased given that they were my friends. While they gave me incredible insights, it definitely would have been better if I reached out to a larger audience for more diversity!

MOVING FORWARD...

Fully developing the features of every page and adding interaction Testing with more users to see what engages them in other apps and create a sample curriculum to challenge the effectiveness of Eatcue's method
